ElectriSAFE NZ

For fire involving electrical appliance or activity as a potential cause of fire, Fire Investigation Service consults and investigates with the aid of Mike Macklin from ElectriSafe, a Registered Electrical Inspector with over 30 years experience. Mike also has under gone specialised electrical fire investigation training.

Fire Forensics PTL

Jim Munday joined the Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) Forensic Science Laboratory in 1972 and moved into full-time fire and explosion investigation in 1979. He left the lab in 1998 and relocated to New South Wales in 2002. He has investigated well over 3000 fire scenes including some 350 fatal incidents, and carried out laboratory tests on materials from more than 1000 others.

Jim has contributed to many publications and lectured widely on all aspects of fire and explosion investigation. He has also been heavily involved in devising and delivering training programmes and helping to create national standards of competence for investigators. Jim is a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers, holds the Post-Graduate Diploma of the Forensic Science Society in Fire Investigation and is an IAAI Certified Fire Investigator. He is also a Fellow of the Forensic Science Society, currently one of only three in this discipline.

Luis Velazco

Luis Velazco has been involved in all aspects of the field of fire investigation and post blast scene investigation as well as critical incident scene and case management for the past thirty five years. He is a nationally and internationally known lecturer on effective investigative techniques and solutions for, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Insurance Industry and Legal Professionals. His expertise includes Fire Origin and Cause Determination, Post Blast Scene Investigations, Large Loss Investigation Management, Training Curriculum Development, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Training, Subrogation and Fraud Investigation.

New Zealand Association of Fire Investigators Incorporated (NZAFI) is a professional society for individuals involved in the investigation of the origin and cause of fires, and the investigation, prosecution and suppression of arson in New Zealand.

Victorian Association of Fire Investigators, Inc

The Victorian Association of Fire Investigators is an organisation made up of representatives of all fire and fire investigation fields in Victoria and Tasmania.

It has these objectives:

• To unite for mutual benefit those officials and private persons engaged in the control of arson and kindred crimes
• To provide for the exchange of technical information and developments
• To co-operate with other law enforcement agencies and associations to further fire prevention and suppression of crime
• To encourage high professional standards of conduct among fire investigators and to continually strive to eliminate all factors which interfere with administration of crime suppression.

The International Association of Arson Investigators, Inc. (IAAI) is an association of more than 5,000 fire investigation professionals from across the world, united by a strong commitment to suppress the crime of arson through professional fire investigation.
